Behind the scenes Issue #3

Why I quit WoW

After playing for 16 years and making content about it for 13, I decided to stop playing the game and making content for it, and I have a few reasons.

The last straw was the outrageous subscription price increase.

As if expansion prices getting higher and higher weren't enough, with smaller expansions coming out a little more often, they also decided to raise our subscription by more than 35%!

Besides, I had been playing WoW for many years. There were phases when I felt burned out, and others when I was really excited about the game.

In 2025 I was pretty excited, mostly about making content for the game, and when housing was announced I got even more hyped.

But that was basically what still kept me in the game: I liked making guides and doing achievements. I always said so to anyone who would listen.

While I was making the beginner's guide, I was really excited, full of cool ideas.

I wanted to make a really complete guide, but for that I'd have to do it on a new account. After all, a lot of things are shared across your Battle.net account, so the only way to know how things currently look for new players was with a brand-new account.

Up to level 20, that's what I did: I showed what a new account was like and what was available in the free trial.

After that, I would need to pay for game time, but I couldn't afford two subscriptions, so I contacted Blizzard through the form they provided for content creators, explained the project and asked for at least one month of game time. In that month I would binge WoW on the new account and record everything I could to make the guide nice and complete.

To be honest, I don't even remember if I ever got an answer to that request.

So I ended up doing what I could, but the guide never got all the content I had planned.

At the end of November 2025 I got hurt: I broke the tibia and fibula of my leg, at the ankle, into who knows how many pieces, and partially tore a ligament in my other ankle.

I had to have surgery and spent months unable to walk. That brought me down in general, and making content got a bit harder. I insisted on at least trying to keep the live streams going, but playing WoW live wasn't really what I wanted to do.

To top it off, housing arrived and I was disappointed.

It had everything to win me over, but the way they decided you get furniture and decorate your house ruined it for me.

I know a lot of people loved housing, and many may think I'm just being fussy, and maybe I am.

But I've played A LOT of games that let you build your house or your base, so I know very well what I like and what I don't.

Having to own each piece of furniture, in the exact quantity I want to use, and having to travel all over the game spending a fortune to get it didn't appeal to me at all.

If I could at least plan the house and then go after what's missing, that would already work for me (like we do with transmogs), but the way it is, it just doesn't work for me.

When Midnight came out, I thought I'd get excited again. I leveled my mage and my druid, and both felt easy to play. With the druid it was a lot of fun, and quests and delves were smooth. There were lots of new achievements to chase, and I even started putting together achievement and collectible guides for the new expansion.

But even so, I still didn't feel like playing WoW…

I didn't think the expansion was bad, not like other expansions that had made me stop playing for months. And even though I was managing to make content, and nothing was bad enough to ruin the experience, I just didn't feel like playing anymore. I was forcing myself to play so I could make content.

And then came the bucket of cold water with the absurd subscription increase, and I realized that putting R$ 55 into Steam every month (which I'm not even doing) is a better deal for me.

Of course I won't say I'll never go back to WoW. After all, we don't know what the future holds, but right now I don't see myself playing WoW, WoW Classic, WoW Forever or anything like that.

So now I'm going back to the channel's roots, with games of all kinds: telling you what I thought of them, recommending games, sharing tips on games on sale and so on.

I hope to keep seeing you here and on the channel, now with lots of fun little games for us to discover together.

Over already? Then I'll play it again!

Some games are short and so much fun that you even feel a little sad when they end, so we look for an excuse to play them one more time.

Games where building your base isn't necessarily the main goal, but is the most fun part for a lot of players.
