The Talos Principle 2

Croteam · 2023

Great puzzles, improved exploration and a lot more dialogue (which isn't always a good thing), but also good doses of humor. Those were 50 very well spent hours!

Loved

  • More logical, intuitive puzzles, in a good way
  • Much easier to explore and find the extras
  • There are cats, and you can pet one
  • Gave me a few good laughs

Not for me

  • Lots of blah blah blah and lots of walking
  • Connecting the bridges and the tetrominoes

The review

Loved the game!

Even though I didn't agree with many of the messages in the story, those were some 50 very well spent hours.

  • The game has a lot of “blah, blah, blah” and makes you walk A LOT, especially if you want to complete it, but if you really want ONLY puzzles, you can skip the mandatory conversations and completely avoid the extra ones. Even so, you'll still spend a while walking.

But if you like understanding the whole story, I found it much easier and less tedious to follow what's going on.

  • I didn't expect this game to make me laugh, but it gave me a few good laughs.
  • It's much easier to explore and find the extras, the terminals and the puzzles compared to the first one.
  • THERE ARE CATS!! And you can even pet at least one of them.
  • I found the puzzles more logical, intuitive and easier, but in a good way! In the first game, there were puzzles with a very large, open area that needed such a complex solution that I often ended up resorting to hints; in this one I didn't feel that need. This time the solutions are simpler, but they still make you think, and often the simplest ones were the ones that made me think the longest.
  • I didn't enjoy connecting the bridges, just like I never got along with the tetromino puzzles in the first game.

If you really can't be bothered to read all that, here's the summary of the summary:

  • Lots of blah blah blah and exploring, but it ends up being fun, and the story is much easier to understand.
  • Full of little jokes
  • Much better for exploring and finding puzzles and extras.
  • Cats, lots of cats. Clearly the devs were enslaved by their cats.
  • The puzzles feel easier/more logical/simpler in a good way.
  • The tetromino puzzles are different now, but I still don't like them.
